Buzz Lightyear Ribbon Garland

  • 1/4 yard gray cotton fabric
  • 1/4 yard purple cotton fabric
  • 1/4 yard lime green cotton fabric
  • 6+ feet cord (or string, to hang garland)

Woody Ribbon Garland

  • 1/4 yard cow print cotton fabric
  • 1 red bandana
  • 1/4 yard yellow cotton fabric
  • 1/4 yard blue cotton fabric
  • 6+ feet cord (or string, to hang garland)

  • Iron the fabric if desired or needed to eliminate any creases.
  • To make the garland, cut the fabric into strips approximately 8 inches long and 1.5 inches wide (adjust the size based on what you like and need!)
  • Cut a small, horizontal slit into each piece of fabric at a short end, right in the middle of the width, approximately 1/2 inch from the end. Lay out your cord. Wrap the strip under and over the cord, then through the slit, then pulled slightly tight (think of how a normal necktie looks, or when you want to tie string, a leash, etc around a pole). I didn't pull the strips completely tight as then they would be more difficult to position.
  • Repeat this process in the sequence of fabrics that you like until you get your desired ribbon length (approximately 4 feet with these material quantities).
  • Cut the cord to the length that you need to cover the space, leaving a gap on each end for hanging (at least one foot on each side).

Each set of materials above would make one string of garland with 4 feet of ribbon, plus at least one foot of cord to hang with on each side.

You can also find the fabrics at your local crafting store, or even substitute some of the fabrics for plain colored bandanas.
